What To Expect

- Intensive Individual Therapy may include:

- Education - Utilizing the "Living in Balance" evidence based curriculum.
- And for Sex Addiction, the "Recovery Start Kit" By Dr. Patrick Carnes
- Relapse Prevention
- Thoughts and Feelings and how they relate to triggers
- Triggers and Rituals
- More than just "Talk Therapy"
- Couples Therapy may include:
- Developing healthy communication skills
- Education
- Disclosing secrets
- Setting healthy boundaries, etc.
- Each session will be focused on the goal of
providing skills development for sustained recovery.
Recovery skills include:
- The ability to tolerate emotional distress
- The ability to self-soothe in an appropriate manner
- The ability to motivate self
- The ability to stop, think and respond and not react
- The ability to control impulses
- The ability to delay gratification
- The ability to ask for help when needed
- Many therapists can provide the same treatment methods. However, few, especially those not treating addictions, have an understanding of the goals necessary for sustained recovery and how to achieve them.
